Enhancing Digital Identity Security Between Europe and Africa

Insights from the Workshop at Digital Government Africa 2025 in Zambia

On 7 October 2025, during the Digital Government Africa (DGA) Summit, a workshop convened government representatives from across the African continent together with experts from the academic and private sector to explore an emerging priority: developing common denominators for security levels of Digital Identity Wallets between Europe and Africa.

The core objective was to present the ongoing research “Enhancing Digital Identity Security: Guidelines for Common Denominators Between Europe and Africa,” and explore practical pathways toward secure, interoperable wallet ecosystems — while preserving national sovereignty and accommodating regional priorities.

As Digital Identity Wallets gain traction globally, ensuring security alignment becomes critical for future interoperability — not necessarily uniformity, but mutual recognizability.
