Is there a correlation between digital ID systems and subsequent benefits?
Across diverse countries and datasets, this study examines whether access to official identification is systematically associated with improved social and economic outcomes. The visualisations explore patterns linking ID possession with government transfer receipt, access to key services such as banking, employment, and electricity, and the distribution of livelihood opportunities across population groups. By comparing contexts ranging from Findex survey data to household and district-level records in Bangladesh, Liberia, Tanzania, and Uganda, the analysis investigates whether these associations are consistent or context-specific. Guided by the core research question—Is there a correlation between digital ID systems and subsequent benefits?—the study evaluates how identification may influence welfare, access, and opportunity in measurable ways. Ultimately, the goal is to clarify whether observed differences reflect underlying causal mechanisms or correlations shaped by broader socioeconomic conditions.
