SIDI Use Case Analysis – Refugees

In 2024, the SIDI Hub “Champion Use Case” workstream convened to explore those use cases that best represent the human impacts and economic benefits of investing in globally interoperable Digital Identity. Following a period of global listening and analysis, the community prioritized the Refugee use case for in-depth exploration. This report summarizes the following:
? Need for a variety of globally interoperable credentials to support Refugees and the agencies accountable for correctly identifying them, especially focusing on UNHCR
? Needs of actors in the Refugee credential ecosystem
? Key identity challenges are presented through the journey of registering with UNHCR and obtaining Refugee Status Determination.
The SIDI Hub Community concludes that there are meaningful benefits in collaborating to improve the experiences of Refugees and agencies. Given its critical role in supporting Refugees worldwide, SIDI Hub and its participants will prioritize efficient, effective collaboration with UNHCR that leads to specific policies, standards, or technical tools that would improve outcomes for people and society.
