SIDI Use Case Analysis – Education

In 2024, the SIDI Hub “Champion Use Case” workstream convened to explore those use cases that would best represent the human impacts and economic benefits of investing in globally interoperable Digital Identity. Following a period of global listening and analysis, the Education use case was prioritized for in-depth exploration. This report summarizes the following:

? Demand for globally interoperable Education credentials
? Needs of actors in the Education credential ecosystem
? The ecosystem of organizations working to advocate for and develop policies, standards, and technical solutions to solve the challenges of student mobility and data
portability.

The SIDI Hub Community concludes that there are meaningful benefits to solving the education use case – domestically and internationally (please see the Appendix for domestic
considerations collected). Given that there exist many organizations that work in this space today, SIDI Hub will prioritize advocacy, collaboration, and partnering to meet unmet needs in the ecosystem. It concludes with a summary of the technical and policy contributions that SIDI
Hub will develop in pursuit of a Digital Commons for Digital Identity in 2025, including rulebooks and standards for trust management.
